Ayubia National Park

Location North of Murree in the Himalayan range mountains.

Ayubia National Park is a small national park in the Murree hills. This park provides refuge to the elusive leopard and the black bear. Bird watching is excellent here. The scenery is superb with huge pine forests covering the hills and providing shelter to the larger and smaller mammals.

Wildlife: Mammals in the park include Asiatic leopard, Black bear, Yellow throated marten, Kashmir hill fox, Red Flying squirrel, Himalayan palm civet, Masked civet and Rhesus Macaque. Birds in the park are Golden eagle, Griffon vulture, Honey buzzard, Peregrine falcon, Kestrel, Indian sparrow hawk, Hill pigeon, Spotted dove and Collared dove.

 

Chitral Gol National Park

Location North east in the N.W.F.P province of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan in the Hindukush Range.

Chitral Gol National Park is situated in the beautiful valley of Chitral. This park is famous for its Markhor goats, now numbering in several hundereds. The park is also the home of the elusive snow leopard and the occasional Black Bear.

Wildlife: Mammals in the park include Snow leopard, Markhor, Brown bear, Wolf, Red fox, Yellow throated martin, Himalayan otter ( In rivers streams). Common bird in the park are Lammergier vulture, Griffon vulture, Golden eagle, Demosille crane( Passage migrant), Peregrine falcon.

 

Deosai National Park

Location South east of Skardu in the Karakoram range.

Deosai National park contains the largest Brown bear population in Pakistan. The park currently has inbetween 20-25 Brown bears. This park was establised to protect these endangered bears. Recently a research project has started to monitor the population of these bears and protect their environment. Snow leopards also wander into the meadows of this unforgiving land.

Wildlife: Mammals in the park include--Brown bear, Snow leopard, Golden Marmot, Pika, Migratery hamster and Ermine. Birds in the park are--Golden eagle, Lammagier vulture, Griffon vulture, Laggar falcon, Peregrine falcon, Kestrel, Indian sparrow hawk and Snow cock.

 

Hazar Ganji Chiltan National Park

Location 20 km South East of Quetta

Hazar Ganji literally means "Of a thousand treasures". In the folds of these mountains, legend has it, that there are over a thousand treasures buried; reminders of the passage of great armies down the corridors of history. The Bactrain's, Scythians, Mongol's and then the great migrating hordes of Baloch, all passed this way.In this Park Markhors have been given protection. The park is spread over 32,500 acres, altitude ranging from 2021 to 3264 metersHazar Ganji Chiltan National Park has given the protection to the Markhor, which is the national animal of Pakistan. This is endangered animal so this kept in HazarGanji Chiltan National Park. Overnice markhor has been given protection it's numbered has multiplied.Other animal in the park are straight horned Markhors, "Gad" (wild sheep) and leopards which occasionally migrate to the park from other areas, wolves, striped hyena, wild cats and porcupines. Many birds like partridge, warblers, shikras, blue rock pigeon, rock nuthatch, red gilled choughs, golden eagle, sparrow, hawks, falcons and bearded vultures are either found here or visit the park in different seasons.Reptiles like monitor and other wild lizards, geckos, Afghan tortoise, and python, cobra, horned viper and levantine may also be seen in the park.Amongst the flora of the park are 225 species of plants. Prominent is the pistachio's, Juniper, wild olive, wild ash and wild almond. Many shrub's like wild fig, barbery, wild cherry, makhi etc; provide food and shelter to the foraging animals, birds and other life form. Many medicinal herbs are also there. There is a splash of color ion spring when most of the plants are in bloom. Nature lovers, students, scientists and researcher are welcome to visit the park at any time of the year. Permit to visit the park can be obtained from the Divisional Forest Officer, Spiny Road, and Quetta.Rest house facility is available for overnight stay. Park Rangers help the visitors to see animals. Access trails have been developed in the park for visitors.

Birds in the park are Houbara bustard, Griffon vulture, Honey buzzard, Laggar falcon, Peregrine falcon, Kestrel, Indian sparrow hawk, Egyptian vulture, Larks, Shrikes, Wheatears Reptiles in the park are Monitor lizard, Russells viper, Indian cobra, Saw scaled viper and Spiny tailed lizard.

 

Margalla Hills National Park

Location North East of the national capital Islamabad

Margalla Hills National Park, is located in the foothills of the Himalayan range. This park is the most accessible park in Pakistan due to its close proximity to the national capital, Islamabad. It is an extention of the Islamabad wildlife sanctuary, which includes the Shakar Parian Hills and the Rawal Lake. The park was setup to provide refugee to the Gray Goral, Barking deer and the Leopard, which is found in this area in winters. Protection to these animals have benefitted other unusual and interesting smaller animal as well. Margalla Hills Park provides an excellent opportunity for bird watching. A Cheer Pheasant hatchery has been established at Chak Jabri to raise captive Cheer pheasants that have become extinct in the hills. These are then released in the wild.

Wildlife: Mammals in the park include Asiatic leopard, Wild boar, Jackal, Rhesus Macaque, Leopard cat, Gray Goral sheep, Barking deer, Chinkara gazelle(rare), Red fox, Pangolin, Porcupine, Yellow throated marten and Fruit bats. Birds in the park are Griffon vulture, Laggar falcon, Peregrine falcon, Kestrel, Indian sparrow hawk, Egyptian vulture, White cheeked bulbul, yellow vented bulbul, Paradise flycatcher, Black partridge, Cheer pheasant, Khalij pheasant, Golden oriole, Spotted dove, Collared dove, Larks, Shrikes, Wheatears and buntings. Reptiles in the park are Russells viper, Indian cobra and Saw scaled viper.
